What is the gut-brain axis?Updated a year ago

The gut-brain axis (GBA) consists of bidirectional communication between the central and the enteric nervous system, linking emotional and cognitive centers of the brain with peripheral intestinal functions. In other words, when you have butterflies in your stomach, that’s a signal of your gut and brain being connected. Studies show that your brain affects your gut health and your gut may even affect your brain health. The communication system between your gut and brain is called the gut-brain axis.
