Why is fiber important? What are the benefits of fiber?Updated a year ago

Fiber keeps everything in your digestive tract moving along smoothly, optimizing your overall health. Because fiber isn’t digested by the body, it moves through your intestines as a whole, cleaning out your digestive tract. Recent studies show that fiber feeds our good gut microbes — the ones that keep our entire bodies happy and healthy, since the gut is the home of the immune system!

This is especially important within our intestines, where the more microbes we have, the thicker the mucus barrier becomes between our bacterial population and our bodies. The benefits of this mucus barrier are twofold: it improves digestion and supports our immune system.

Some of the additional benefits of including fiber-rich foods or supplements in your diet include: alleviating temporary bloating, improving energy, helping with weight control, and supporting gorgeous skin and hair.
